Privacy Policy

Effective 2 September 2026 · DartWeaver (operated by Ian Inch, South Africa)

DartWeaver (operated by Ian Inch) provides Keepa, a beekeeping network for South Africa. Beekeeping data is commercially sensitive and this policy explains what we collect, what stays private and what other members can see, in compliance with South African data protection law.

Your exact hive positions are never published. The only location other members ever see is the forage block you claim, an area roughly 30 km across. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
1

Information we collect

expand_more
When you register your operation we collect: (a) contact and identity details, your full name, business name, email address and phone number, (b) your apiary address and location where you choose to give them, (c) beekeeping details, your classification, number of active hives, years of experience and bee species, (d) business and support interests, such as whether you sell honey, need refining connections or want registration assistance, (e) colony health history, only with your explicit consent as set out in section 4. Using the service adds records you create: your block claim, hive records and inspections, marketplace listings and bids, theft reports, messages and compliance details you ask us to keep. Signing in creates an account identity handled by Firebase Authentication.
2

How we use your information

expand_more
Your details are used to run the network: to show where keepers operate at block level, to connect honey sellers with buyers and refineries, to connect farmers who need pollination with keepers who can provide it, and to warn keepers about theft nearby. Where you ask for it, we use your details to assist with official hive registration and lease renewals. Your email is used to sign you in and to contact you about your account. We never sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
3

Location: what stays private

expand_more
Location is handled at two levels of precision and they do different jobs. Your exact apiary position and address are stored privately and are used only to place you in the right block. They are never published, never shared with other members and never returned by any member facing feature. The forage block you claim, roughly 30 km across, is the only location other members see. Area statistics are aggregated and are withheld where so few keepers share a block that a figure would effectively identify one keeper's operation.
4

Colony health data and consent

expand_more
Hive disease history is commercially sensitive. A reported disease case can affect a keeper's buyer relationships, which is why we treat this data differently. Colony health history is stored only when you have given explicit consent. Without consent it is not recorded at all rather than recorded and hidden. Health data is never published against your name or your block.
5

Hive records are yours alone

expand_more
Your hives, inspections and hive settings are readable by your account and nothing else. They are never included in feeds, searches, aggregates or exports available to other members. Hive records can be kept on your device while you are offline and sync to our servers when a connection returns.
6

Data sharing and storage

expand_more
We do not sell your information. Your data is stored in our own database on secure access controlled servers with a recognised infrastructure provider. Those servers are located outside South Africa, so your information is processed abroad. Google (Firebase) processes a limited set of data on our behalf for sign in. We only share information when: (a) required by South African law or valid legal process, (b) necessary to protect the safety and rights of users, (c) you explicitly choose to share it with other members, for example by claiming a block or publishing a marketplace listing.
7

Your rights

expand_more
You control your data. You can update your details, withdraw health data consent, and ask us to correct or delete your records by contacting us. When your account is deleted, records that identify you are removed. During early access some features are still being built, so requests that cannot yet be actioned in the app are handled by hand through the contact address below.
8

Data security

expand_more
We implement industry standard security measures including encrypted data transmission, sign in secured by Firebase Authentication and access controlled servers. While we take security seriously, no internet transmission is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password.
